Press Release: 20 August 2021

Wow! We cannot believe that we are halfway through this term! Time has flown by.

Last term for NAIDOC Week, we did lots of activities with our buddies. We participated in a Yarning Circle with Mrs Beste, read Aboriginal stories to our buddies and we made boomerangs out of salt dough. Miss Balogh may not have put enough salt in the dough because we are still waiting for them to dry completely. We cannot wait for them to dry so we can paint them with our Year 1 Buddies.

The Student Representatives for Term 3 have been chosen and are doing a fabulous job with their new responsibilities. They had their first Student Council meeting on Tuesday, 10 August and had a blast.

In class, we have been learning how to program Makey-Makeys to do lots of different things like using play-dough, use the computer instead of the keyboard and mouse. We had the best time trying to play games and create music with the Makey-Makeys.

This term we are designing sustainable houses. We all have almost finished with our floor plans and some of us have had the opportunity to start constructing our houses! Miss Balogh and Mr Adamson helped us cut our cardboard and start to construct our floor plan. Others worked on our Conductors and Insulator Lab Report, where we used Makey-Makeys to investigate which materials at the school act as conductors or as insulators. We cannot wait to show all of our hard work to our families during the Learning Journey in Week 10 on Tuesday, 21 September 2021.

It is getting closer to the Faction Carnival and everyone is getting excited to find out who will win this year. We cannot believe that this will be our last Faction Carnival at Wattle Grove Primary School. We have been doing lots of practice with our class and other classes, like 100 metre run-offs, long jump and javelin. The Faction Carnival is to be held on Friday, 3 September.

This week we had our last Book Week Parade as primary students. We had fun seeing all the costumes and dressing up. The theme this year is: Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds.

On Wednesday, 15 August we will be taking part in the Wattle Walk to celebrate Wattle Day with Miss Lamb’s class in Room 13. We will be walking around the neighbourhoods surrounding the school to spread joy on such a glorious day.

Our Citizenship Portfolios and Projects are due on Thursday, 16 September 2021. We need to have hard copies of each area to hand in to Ms Roberts as she will be interviewing students to present their projects to the Darling Range Learning Community.

We look forward to see what the rest of the term has in store for us.

Sincerely,

Lucy, Ben and Tariq
